Jakarta - Pertama kalinya, Indonesia Cutting Edge Music Awards (ICEMA) digelar. Ini dia para jawara yang diumumkan di Epicentrum Walk, Kuningan, Jakarta Selatan, Minggu (18/7/2010) malam.

ICEMA adalah ajang perhargaan yang diperuntukkan kepada para pemusik non-mainstream. Sejak April lalu, para nominasi dipilih lewat voting yang digelar di www.icema.co.id. Soleh Solihun berperan sebagai pemandu acara di pagelaran ICEMA yang dimulai sekitar pukul 20.00 WIB dan berakhir hampir tengah malam.

Band asal Bali, Superman is Dead menjadi musisi dengan penghargaan terbanyak. Mereka berhasil memborong tiga piala untuk kategori Favorite Punk/Hardcore Song, Favorite Artwork from Album dan Favorite Band Group or Duo.

Setelah Superman is Dead, musisi yang berjaya lainnya yaitu Maliq & d'Essentials dan Adhitia Sofyan, kompak mendapatkan dua piala. Sementara Favorite World Music Song diraih Tompi. Sayang dokter bedah tersebut tidak hadir menerima penghargaan tersebut.

Band trio Efek Rumah Kaca, berhasil mengantongi piala Favorite Alternative Song. Tiga piala spesial hasil rembukan dewan juri pun muncul di akhir acara. Most Inspiring Band diraih Pas, Best Album oleh Efek Rumah Kaca dan Lifetime Achievement didapatkan Fariz RM.

"Baru kali ini saya menerima award yang bermatabat," ujar Fariz di antara rentetan rasa terima kasihnya.

Bukan hanya sekadar membacakan pemenang nominasi, acara ICEMA 2010 juga diisi penampilan ciamik dari band-band cutting edge. Mereka berkolaborasi dengan gemilang di atas pentas.

Sebut saja aksi The Authentic bersama Superglad yang membawakan lagu milik Pas. Juga ketika musik suggest dari Efek Rumah Kaca berpadu dengan ide kreatif Zeke Khaseli. Mereka menyanyikan lagu 'Kenakalan Remaja Dalam Era Informatika'. Jas bertuliskan "Bikin Malu - Sex" di bagian punggung menghiasi aksi mereka.

Notturno, Anda, Mian Tiara dan Leonardo juga berkolaborasi. Begitu juga dengan Souljah yang berhasil menyatukan musik mereka dengan Endah N' Resha.

Acara pun ditutup dengan aksi gemilang The Flowers yang menggandeng Adrian Adioetomo dan Indra Lesmana. Indra yang biasa akrab dengan musik jazz terlihat menikmati permainan langka tersebut. Ia meraung-raungkan kibord dengan nada-nada cutting edge yang sangat menyatu dengan suara gitar Adrian dan musik rock & roll milik The Flowers.

Shaggydog dan Outsiders Jogja.....

Gelar Konser Amal Peduli Orangutan. Selama dua hari ratusan orang berkumpul di Kulonprogo, Yogyakarta demi pelestarian orangutan sambil berdansa bersama Shaggydog.

Andai orangutan di Pusat Penyelamatan Satwa Jogjakarta (PPSJ) bisa berdansa, mereka pasti akan bergabung bersama Shaggydog dalam pertunjukan musik bertajuk Dare to Care tersebut.

Pertunjukan dalam rangka ulang tahun Outsiders Yogya (sebutan bagi fans Superman Is Dead di Yogya) yang kedua ini mengambil tema tersebut sebagai upaya mengajak kaum muda untuk berani peduli pada nasib orangutan.

Pertunjukan berkonsep camping ini berlangsung selama dua hari pada 23-24 Mei lalu dengan mengambil tempat di Pusat Penyelamatan Satwa Jogjakarta (PPSJ). PPSJ sendiri merupakan tempat bagi para orangutan sitaan milik pribadi untuk dirawat dan dipersiapkan sebelum kembali dilepas ke hutan. Nantinya hasil dari konser ini akan disumbangkan bagi operasional PPSJ.

Shaggydog, Suicidal Sinatra, Something Wrong, Morning Horny, dan beberapa band lain membuat tempat liar itu semakin liar lewat sajian musik yang mereka hadirkan. Meski hujan deras mengguyur venue sejak maghrib hal itu tak membuat semangat peduli pada orangutan luntur. Morning Horny dan Something Wrong berhasil mengajak ratusan Doggies (julukan bagi fans Shaggydog) dan Outsiders untuk bertelanjang dada dan berdansa di tengah hujan.

Sekitar pukul setengah dua belas malam giliran Suicidal Sinatra yang menghujani penonton dengan nuansa rock dengan dentuman bas yang sangat khas. Pohon yang runtuh menimpa sebagian panggung tak membuat band asal Bali ini berhenti membuat ratusan massa melompat-lompat di tengah hujan.

Pukul setengah satu malam ratusan penonton yang sudah basah kuyup makin merapat ke panggung untuk menutup malam bersama Shaggydog. “Tadi Jerinx nitip salam dan meminta maaf nggak bisa datang, lain kali dia janji bakal ngebir bersama kita lagi!” tutur Heru vokalis Shaggydog sesaat setelah mengucapkan selamat ulang tahun kepada para Outsiders kota gudeg.

“Mari memperlakukan orangutan seperti layaknya saudara kita sendiri,” lanjut Heru pada para ratusan orang di depan panggung. Band yang lekat dengan kawasan Sayidan ini kemudian menggebrak dengan lagu-lagu anthemic mereka macam “Kembali Berdansa” dan “Di Sayidan”, tak ketinggalan beberapa lagu dari album baru mereka macam “Ditato” dan “Honey” berhasil membuat penonton yang masih meneduh di tenda meluncur untuk berhujan-hujan ria di depan panggung.

Selain diisi oleh pertunjukan musik amal bagi orangutan, Dare to Care juga menggandeng Centre for Orangutan Protection (COP) sebuah lembaga independen yang berkonsentrasi pada penyelamatan orangutan untuk memberi pengetahuan mengenai kondisi orangutan lewat pemutaran film dokumenter. Menurut Hardi Bakdiantoro (pendiri COP) acara musik seperti ini sangat membantu untuk memberitahu keadaan orangutan yang sebenarnya pada anak muda.

“Saat ini sekitar 2.400 dari 12.000 orangutan terbunuh setiap tahunnya, hal ini diperparah lagi karena pemerintah terus mengizinkan pembukaan lahan sawit di Kalimantan yang berarti membabat habis habitat orangutan, ini jelas nggak bisa dibiarin,” jelasnya. Ia juga menambahkan dengan event seperti ini diharapkan anak muda mau peduli terhadap satwanya khususnya orangutan.

Hal senada disampaikan Bandizt (bassist Shaggydog) yang juga bertindak sebagai penanggungjawab acara ini. “Lewat Dare to Care diharapkan perhatian ke orangutan meningkat sebab kondisi orangutan memang benar-benar memprihatinkan, inginnya juga ngebentuk kesadaran kalau kita kaya akan satwa, anak muda penting buat disadarin, kalau yang tua-tua udah susah,” jelas pembetot bas Shaggydog yang sekali seminggu pergi ke PPSJ untuk memberi makan orangutan ini.

Pertunjukan amal dua hari ini kemudian ditutup dengan memberi makan orangutan di PPSJ di hari kedua berlangsungnya penyelenggaraan. “Orangutan harus terus kita jaga, dan stop pembabatan hutan untuk perkebunan kelapa sawit,” pungkas Bandizt sambil memberi makan seekor orangutan.

SID, punk rock pioneers of Bali, were born and bred in Kuta Rock City. The band is three chord attitude-heavy young men, by name : Bobby Kool (lead vocal, guitar, a dog lover and a graphic designer) , Eka Rock (low ridin' family man, beer drinker, laid back bass and backing vocal and a warm smilin' Rock 'N Roll bandman, IT warior) , Jrx (low ridin' beer drinking Rock 'N Roll prince charming, drummer and a hairwax junkie, Bar owner)

The name 'Superman is Dead' started its' evolution from Stone Temple Pilot's "Superman Silvergun". The name moved on to "Superman is Dead" cause they like the idea that there's no such thing as a perfect person out there.
SID actually stumbled together in '95, drawn by their common love of Green Day and NOFX. Their influences soon extended to the punk 'n roll genre a la Supersuckers, Living End and Social Distortion, and here they stay. They say what they wanna say, how they wanna say it. In your face, to say it precisely.

SID public image, self described, is "Punk Rock a Bali" (think raw energy of NOFX vs Social Distortion supersonically fueled with beer-soaked Balinese Rockabilly attitude).
History ? SID produced their first three albums independently (the boys worked years of crappy night jobs), with fabulous, small scale indie labels 1997 "Case 15", 1999 "Superman is Dead", 2002 "Bad Bad Bad"(mini album, 6 tracks).

In March 2003, SID finally signed with Sony-BMG Indonesia after extended negotiations regarding their right to sing the majority of their tracks in English and have full artistic rights over their 'image'!! With that decision they single handedly became the first band from Bali to be invited to sign with a major recording label in Indonesia, the first band in their nation (to my knowledge) to be recording majority of songs in English and the first punk band in Indonesia to get the national exposure and promotion that working with a major label in a third world country provides. And so the history of Indonesian Punk Rock begins!

And as for the question that everyone wants to know, the infamous bomb in Bali happened about 75 M from their home, hangout center, punk rock boutique, bar and rehearsal studio that is also Jrx' house, in the heart of Kuta.
After panel beating back the rolling doors of the studio and shifting a little debris, rehearsals continued as usual. Yeah, they saw a lot, it sucked big time, but its' not gonna stop 'em!

And where are they now? At the end of 2002, one of the more respectable music mags here cited SID as "The Next Big Thing" for 2003. With the release of their fourth album "Kuta Rock City" followed by major air play nationally and in some countries overseas, coupled with the instant popularity of their newest film clip.

SID suddenly find themselves touring continuously throughout Indonesia. Last week they were in four major Indonesian cities, on three islands, in 7 days! Sometimes playing for free at underground scene clubs, sometimes at street skate parties or alternative band festivals, at lots of universities and even occasionally at "classy" venues who would have probably denied them entrance years ago!
Which means more beers for all.

In 2003 SID even got a mention in Time Asia.
They also won a few music awards “MTV Awards for The Best New Artist 2003”, “AMI Awards for The Best New Artist 2003” and nominated again in “AMI Awards 2006 for The Best Rock Album”.

October 2007, they did an amazing Australian tour, 8 cities, 16 gigs, 33 days with their strong D.I.Y work ethic.

June – July 2009, Superman Is Dead held An American Tour, 16 Gigs in 16 cities. 11 gigs of them were the ‘ Vans Warped Tour’ and the last 5 gigs were ‘From Bali With Rock’. They did a very hard work to succeed this excited tour, had crossed the big land from westcoast to eastcoast and got back to westcoast.

SID had share stages with international bands such as International Noise Conspiracy, NOFX, MXPX and Hoobastank.
They remain proud, boys from the streets of Kuta with a love of punk rock, beers and a good time. Ready for whatever comes next, excited about the next gig.
